Job Description

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing psychiatric and behavioral health care services to patients ranging in age from 18 to geriatrics. The NP will evaluate complex health histories and provide examinations, diagnose and treat from acute to chronic conditions of the patients otherwise performed by a physician. In addition, interprets laboratory results and X-rays, prescribe and manage medications and other therapies, provide health teaching and counseling to support healthy lifestyle behaviors, prevent illness and refer patients to other professionals as needed. The NP provides high-quality, cost –effective and individualized care for the patients, families and communities.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner reports directly to the Medical Director and is responsible to act in accordance with the policies established by the Executive committees of Medical Staff, the Chief Clinical Officer, and with the Arizona State Board of Nurse Examiners and existing state laws.

        Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to project a professional image
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of techniques and methods of patient care services and instructions for patients and their families
  • Working knowledge and ability to apply professional standards of practice in job situations
  • Knowledge of management principles in assessing, planning, implanting, coordinating and evaluating
  • Familiarity with the organization and function of all departments, with policies, regulations, and procedures of the departments
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in job functions (Word processing, graphics, databases, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a healthcare-related setting are ineligible for employment in this position
  • Freedom from illegal use of drugs
  • Freedom from use of and effects of the use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace



  • Required: Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and a graduate of an accredited ARNP program with psychiatric inpatient experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Minimum: A Registered Nurse who is currently licensed to practice, in good standing, by the state of employment, and ARNP licensed
  • Must maintain current provider CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification throughout employment
  • Preferred: Licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
